Basildon based company Phoenix Product Development has successfully raised £2.6m for the development of propelair® their revolutionary air-assisted approach to toilet flushing. The product uses atmospheric air saving 84% of water conventionally used when flushing a toilet.
The system has gained worldwide interest for its potential contribution to sustainable water management and improved hygiene with major organisations such as Anglian Water, London School of Economics and McDonald’s among the many companies now using the system for its huge water saving benefits.
“We had a lot of help from the Essex Innovation Programme. They helped us to find a suitable unit and also provided us with a mentor who provided good business advice, helped us with a successful bid for a research grant and prepared us for the next round of funding.”

Fundraising has resulted in CF Woodford Equity Income Fund becoming a substantial investor in the business. The £2.6 million raised from the Woodford Fund and existing shareholders will be used to support Propelair’s continued growth through expansion of both its sales and marketing and installation teams.
“We always knew we had an excellent product. Customers are very pleased with trials of Propelair 1.5-litre flush toilets, which have consistently delivered results in their busy public washrooms. Organisations are very concerned about the rising costs of water and energy and aware of their obligations to provide a sustainable and hygienic workplace without compromising standards. Propelair is the solution to these problems, and the Woodford investment will allow us to deliver on those objectives and fulfil our growth plan in earnest"
