Essex Innovation Programme helps launch station renovation project

Burnham on Crouch Station House Project awarded £75kAfter almost two decades of campaigning by local residents, Burnham on Crouch ‘Station House Project’ has been awarded £75K to convert the station building into a community hub and artist studio.

A partnership leading to cultural development

This project is a partnership between train operator, Abellio Greater Anglia, Essex County Council and Burnham Town Council.  It will see a full renovation of the internal station house building, starting before the end of March 2015 with works expecting to complete later in the year.

Two affordable art studios will be created as well as space for community and voluntary use which will be managed by Burnham Town Council.

Boost for the local community

“The Station House in Burnham looks set for a pivotal role within the community. The conversion of the house will provide studios for local artistic talent and a hub for cultural development.
A portion of the grant from ECC has come from the Essex Innovation Programme, and we are pleased to be able to provide this funding.”

County Councillor Roger Hirst, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Libraries, Planning and the Environment

"The Burnham Town Mayor and the Town Council fully support this project and are aware of the commitment required. The Town Council is determined to make it work and as such it has the unanimous backing of Town Councillors. It will make a great contribution to the community and many residents have called to confirm this.”

Councillor Ron Pratt, Burnham-on-Crouch Town Mayor

“We’re aware that local residents have wanted this project to come to fruition for many years and various schemes have been proposed but never got off the ground. I’m delighted that we’re the train operator that is able to deliver the project for the benefit of the local community”

Paul Oxley, Stakeholder Manager for Abellio Greater Anglia
